West Space celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2013 with an opening on 24January to launch their 20th anniversary program. In Gallery One “The Sixth” bringing together eight painters from the sixth floor of the Nicholas building. Each Artist will explore the broad concept of Parapsychology.
In Gallery two and three ‘Monuments in Fiction’ Sean Rafferty. “This exhibition is a composition of fragments in the form of photographs, video and archival documents” centred around the farm of Rafferty’s late grandparent’s in Ireland named ‘Rockingham’. The launch starts at 6pm, Bourke Street Melbourne.
Blender Studios never disappoints, starting off the year with Drew Funk’s book launch. The self-published ‘Oriental Funk’ is an examination of his work from 2002 – 2012. The launch will be at No-Vacancy Gallery at QV 18 January.
The Blender Lane night Market is still running every Wednesday night from 5pm- 10pm until the end of February, look out for the review we have coming by Julia Howland. The Blender Studio’s Gallery ‘Dark Horse Experiment’ will have its first exhibition of the year in early march. Will Coles will be the man of the hour, check out the Dark Horse website for more details on that one.
Edmund Pearce will be opening on 17 January for David Collins ‘White Rhino’, Darron Davies ‘Terraria’ and Susanna Dominguez ‘Men and Their Tools’.
David Collins ‘White Rhino’ is part of the MidSumma Festival and showing in Gallery One. Gallery Two is Darron Davies ‘Terraria’ and Gallery Black, Susanna Dominguez ‘Men and Their Tools’.
Utopian Slumps first exhibition of the year, ‘Navel-Grazing’ opened on Saturday featuring work from Janet Beckhouse, Trevelyan Clay, Soren Engsted, Agatha Goethe Snape, Melinda Harper,Christopher L.G Hill, Andrew Liversidge,Liang Luscombe, Navel-grazing is curated by Brooke Babington and Melissa Loughnan.
Brunswick Arts Space kicks off the year with Entry 2013. Started in 2006, Entry is an annual group show. The Opening on 1 February 6pm-9 pm, entry to this show is still open so check out the website or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The next bit should be read very quickly as it is a very quick rundown on a few other Melbourne Arts Club favourites. Centre of Contemporary Photography re-opens on Thursday 7 February, 6–8pm. Seventh Gallery will have its first opening on 23 January. Neon Parc is closed until Feb 7, Counihan until January 19 and Helen Gory 24 January.
